Creating distance. It’s what Mercury Racing sterndrives are known for. Whether it’s widening the gap between us and the competition in the water or the test lab, we think in terms of separation. Power, performance, reliability, efficiency or fun…it doesn’t matter. We won’t rest until we’re comfortably out front. And then, we won’t look back.
Dual Cal 1550/1350
The 1550 dual calibration sterndrive features an advanced control system which enables the operator to switch engine power level via an electronic key fob. The Race key fob turns the engine into a pure bred race machine – pumping out one thousand five hundred and fifty horsepower on 112 AKI race fuel. The Pleasure key fob is selected when a more leisure ride is in order, creating 1350 h.p. on 91 octane (98 RON) fuel. Both fuel calibrations provide maximum torque and efficiency and are designed to optimize the engine performance at each power level.
The 1350 delivers a strong bottom end, “kick-you-in-the-pants” torque throughout the entire rev range and quick throttle response to carry the bow in challenging seas.
From our expansive two-stroke outboard experience, we've employed pulse-separated exhaust tuning. Combined with computer managed turbocharger control, Mercury Racing’s proprietary pulse-separated exhaust keeps the turbos “spooled up” and virtually eliminates throttle lag and low-end torque deficit – shortcomings of less elegant turbocharged marine engines.
Mercury Racing extends its state-of-the-art dual fuel calibration technology to the popular 1350 sterndrive.
Power output is controlled via interchangeable electronic key fobs at the dash. The engine pumps out its advertised one thousand three hundred and fifty horsepower on 91 octane fuel when the 1350 horsepower fob is engaged. Engaging the 1100 horsepower fob reduces the octane requirement to 89 or rec 90 to allow operation in areas where premium fuel availability is unknown.
Consumers are responsible for making sure they have the correct fuel grade in their tank when running in 1350 mode. Both fuel calibrations provide maximum torque and …
The 1100 pumps out 1,100 lb-ft of torque from 2500 to 5250 rpm and delivers 1,100 horsepower at its 6,500 rpm red line. All of this power and torque comes from 89 posted octane (R+M)/2, (95 RON, global) pump gas. Competitive engines with like power ratings require a minimum 91 posted octane. Like the 1350, the 1100 complies with EPA and CARB exhaust gas emissions limits.

Producing an astounding one thousand seven hundred and fifty horsepower, the most powerful engine ever produced by Mercury Racing offers massive torque for unmatched acceleration and top-end speeds. The 1750 sports a bold new color package which differentiates it from its consumer QC4 siblings.
The XR sterndrive features the race-proven Bravo One gear housing packed with heavy-duty components for enhanced engine reliability and durability. The drive comes standard with dual water pickups. The Bold new XR graphics represent performance and durability features that performance boaters demand.
A surface-piercing gearcase that is two inches shorter than a standard Bravo is what differentiates this drive from the rest. The shorter profile enables engines to be mounted lower in the boat. This lowers the center of gravity for improved boat handling and overall performance. Dual water pickups, (mounted on the nose of the torpedo and strut) enhance water flow for improved cooling in a variety of applications.
Designed for boats capable of reaching speeds in excess of 90 mph, the XR Sport Master drive provides superior hydrodynamics utilizing a longer torpedo, which greatly enhances drive control and stability at higher speeds.
All of the XR drive performance enhancements, once limited to racers and performance boaters, are now available for recreational sport cruisers. The counter rotating, duel propeller Three XR is a natural behind the Axius – Joystick Piloting 520. Our line of precision-matched, high polished propellers feature a unique combination of a four-blade front propeller and a three-blade rear propeller for enhanced overall performance as well as propeller durability.
The legendary M6 sterndrive has racked up more national and world championships in the demanding arena of offshore racing than another other propulsion system. The drive features a race-inspired twin pinion gear shaft design. Patented by Mercury for outboard racing back in the 1950s, the innovative design splits the torque load for a higher power capacity while maintaining a slim, surface piercing gearcase shape for maximum efficiency. Forged lower gears, designed to handle the higher toque loads while an innovative dry-sump lubrication system ensures maximum efficiency and power-output.
The M8 sterndrive combines the best features of the NXT6, but with even more robust internal drive components and an all-new lower gearcase. The surface-piercing gearcase, inspired by the legendary dry-sump NXT6 drive, is two inches shorter to compliment the lower engine profile. Lowering engine mounting in a boat results in a lower center of gravity for improved boat handling and overall performance; it also provides more flexibility in boat hatch styling. Like the NXT6, the M8 is dry-sumped for maximum efficiency and power output.
The Integrated Transom System (ITS), developed for use with Bravo sterndrives, features integral power steering cylinders, making the transom more aesthetically pleasing and simplifying installation. A built-in, seven-inch setback improves boat running attitude in selected applications. Trim and steering cylinders, multi-mounted to the gimbal ring, transfer stress loads back to the transom - increasing strength and durability.
Mercury Racing® K-Planes® have long been considered the gold standard of trim tab design, durability and performance. Originally designed to endure the punishing rigors of offshore racing, K-Planes feature a strong, corrosion resistant aluminum casting with large support ribs for enhanced durability. Custom color options will enable boaters to color match the tabs to boat graphics and color optioned Mercury Racing M6 & M8 sterndrives.
K-Planes Information Sheet
Performance Active Trim is an integrated boat speed-based engine trim system specifically for performance applications where the gearcases are running partially surfaced. This intuitive, hands-free system automatically adjusts trim angle for changes in operating conditions to maximize performance and boat handling at speeds up to 50 mph. New performance boaters are now able to enjoy properly trimmed engines with virtually no learning curve, while experienced boaters will no longer need to monitor and adjust trim upon changes in boat speed or turns.
Mercury Racing is pleased to announce the introduction of X-haust, a fully integrated sterndrive exhaust noise reduction system. X-haust was developed primarily to bring the HP600 SCi and EU662 SCi sterndrive engine packages, already certified by the European Union Recreational Craft Directive (RCD) requirements for exhaust emissions, in compliance with the stringent RCD noise regulations.
The EU RCD consists of strict exhaust emissions and noise regulations for both two-stroke and four-stroke recreational marine engines. Regulations for compression ignition and four-stroke spark ignition engines were initiated on Jan. 1, 2006. OEM (original equipment manufacturers) boat builders must certify that their boats conform …

Performance boat builders and dealers are finding the Sport Master gearcase enables them to achieve significantly higher boat speeds by allowing Verado 400R outboards to be run at higher transom heights than models fitted with a production style case. To date, maximizing efficiency of the surfacing, low water pickup gear housing had only been limited by propeller slip. Customers have been eager to find a solution to take full advantage of the Sport Master's capabilities.
We've added five new models to our ever popular Bravo I FS propeller line. Designed for outboard and sterndrive applications, the stainless steel propellers deliver unmatched time-to-plane performance, mid-range punch, mid range cruise and top-end speeds for outboard bass, flats, cat flats, bay boats, offshore center consoles and sterndrive deck and vee bottoms under medium to heavy load.
Mercury Racing propeller specialists have enhanced the performance of the four-blade Bravo I propeller to strategic Lab Finishing specifications for maximum performance. Lab Finishing Technicians lab finish these popular Bravo One, X, XR and Sport Master sterndrive and Verado propellers by thinning propeller blade surfaces in specific areas, modifying the leading and trailing edges and balancing the propeller all for maximum efficiency. The propellers provide top performance in a variety of performance boat applications.
