Destination: Key West

I’m excited about our title sponsorship of this week’s Key West Poker Run. Over 160 boats are registered for the Florida Powerboat Club (FPC) event. The poker run features four flights of  boats running from Miami to Key West. Departures begin Tuesday and run through Friday.  This year is proving to be one of the largest turnouts ever.

By Truck:

The Mercury Racing mobile marketing truck is packed with exciting product displays.

Dave Vhers (see On The Road Again) left Fond du Lac Saturday for Key West in the Mercury Racing mobile marketing truck. The truck will be set-up in the Poker Run Village with exciting product displays including a  1100 sterndrive, a 525 EFI with the Stage 1 X-haust Noise Reducer system and a Mercury Racing Propeller/Accessories display. We will debut our new Power & Propulsion full-line product catalog at the event as well. Poker run participants will receive a variety Mercury Racing branded items in the official event “goody bag.”

This and a variety of Mercury Racing merchandise will be available for purchase at the Mercury Racing merchandise tent.

Officially licensed Mercury Racing merchandise will be available for purchase on-site as well.  Here’s your chance to stock  up on Mercury Racing Holiday gifts. We will be joined by more than 20 other companies including Cigarette Racing, Pier 57, Deep Impact Boats, Shogren Performance and Sunsation Powerboats.

By Planes & Automobiles:

Our supporting cast for this event is impressive. Erik Christiansen, Director of Engineering will be there as will Product Integration Managers Mike Griffiths and Brad Halpin. Jeff Krueger, who wears many hats within Racing,  is flying down early to call on accounts affiliated with his other responsibities: Government Sales.  I’m heading down Wednesday along with our Sales Manager Kevin Skiba and prop guru Scott Reichow. We fly into Ft. Lauderdale and then drive down from there (I’ve been told I won’t be driving – don’t know why).

By Boat:

Fred Kiekhaefer is the one person who is doing it right. He is participating in the event by riding along in a boat from Miami to Key West on Thursday, the largest flight of boats. I’m anxious to hear about his experience when we see him Thursday afternoon. I hope he can capture the sights and sounds via his video camera.

A Flotilla of Mercury Racing Products

I’ve seen a list of poker run entries posted by Jackie Jones on FPC’s Facebook page. Over 90% of the boats feature Mercury Racing power. That’s impressive! What really caught my eye is the diversity – not only in power but depth of models. I saw everything from the current 1350 to vintage products like Pro Max 300X outboards and 900 SC sterndrives! I can’t wait to see all of this hardware in person!

Race on Wed, Fri, Sun.

Key West is unique in that not only is it the site of the world’s largest poker run – but it is also the site of the Super Boat International Key West Offshore World Championships. The entry list for racing seems up as well. Our 525 EFIs are again featured in various catamaran and vee-bottom classes. I believe Steve Page and perhaps a few others will be racing their 850 SCi powered boats in Superboat 850 competition. Bob Bull will race Superboat Unlimited class in CMS Racing, a 48-foot MTI cat with Mercury Racing 1350 power.

It’s looking to be an action-packed week of fun in the sun in historic Key West.  Hope to see you there!

    1. Happy Holidays, Kristee.

I believe you are referring to the Key West Poker Run event shirt featuring our new 565 sterndrive. Those were a limited edition design done specifically for the event. They are no longer available.
